Comet Ikeya Zhang, March 16, 2002, 23:05-23:20 UT, seeing 4 - 5, transparency 5.0 with crescent moon nearby. Windy conditions made it difficult to make an accurate sketch.

90mm f/5 refractor on alt-az mount. Magnification 15x - 38x, field of view: 5.3 degrees. North is to the right in this drawing.

Outer coma wrapped around the front and both sides of a relatively bright parabolic hood that was semi-circle in shape. The outer coma and parabolic hood appeared light blue in color. Gas tail extended straight back, while the dust tail appeared somewhat feathered. The tail appeared to be approximately 3 degrees in length.
